About FairFacts

Creator: Eric Gilliam

In the age of social media, people no longer seem to have any use for a traditional newspaper with a journalist who objectively accounts the political happenings of the previous day. In a world where information is free and making money in the media industry is as difficult as ever, daily newspapers have increasingly begun to provide more and more ‘analysis’ as opposed to objective facts. However, I believe that this ‘analysis’ is often just some Ivy League graduate with an overpowered resume and little understanding of middle America masquerading their partisan opinions as rigorous, informed analysis.

Where I’m from (Addison, Illinois), I was always taught that if you can’t find something right about the other side of an argument, then that probably means that you haven’t thought very hard about it yourself.

I believe there is a way to provide rigorous, informed analysis without tainting each and every article with the same elitism and partisanship that pervades many other major newspapers. I plan on publishing stories which are backed by my own statistical analysis rather than any partisan opinion. To be clear, I would classify my political opinions as centrist and have consistently voted for candidates of both major parties. I hope to bring objective news to those who are tired of news written by journalists who are out of touch with the real problems this country faces.

I am no less educated or qualified than those who inhabit the cubicles of the New York Times, Washington Post, or the Wall Street Journal. I am finishing my degree studying Political Science and Data Science at Stanford University and I hope to bring objective and fresh opinions to readers who are tired of reading the same old news stories presenting voters as either a part of the solution or part of the problem.
